The BCNPIT conference turns Barcelona into the global capital of dementia

During May 15, 16, and 17, the Catalan city hosted the biennial Barcelona-Pittsburgh conference, organized by the Ace Alzheimer Center Barcelona and the Alzheimer Research Center at the University of Pittsburgh, bringing together world-renowned researchers in the field of dementia.

A conference of absolute relevance for the future of research

More than 250 attendees witnessed one of the most significant events in this field on the global scientific agenda. Dementia represents a problem of absolute relevance: currently, there are over 55 million people with Alzheimer's worldwide, making it one of the leading causes of disability and dependence. Hence, the importance of a conference like this, as sharing knowledge in forums like BCNPIT facilitates learning more about the disease and brings the scientific community closer to discovering effective treatments.

Much more than dementia

In Barcelona-Pittsburgh, not only was the treatment of dementia addressed, but also models of prevention, new and future less invasive biomarkers, early indicators of cognitive decline, and advancements in knowledge about the biological aging process.

The most relevant scientists were in Barcelona

The event featured an excellent program that brought together leading scientists in this field. Among them, Dr. Frank Jessen, member of the Steering Committee of the European Alzheimer's Disease Consortium (EADC); Dr. Álvaro Pascual-Leone, professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School; Dr. Michael Heneka, director of the Luxembourg Biomedical Center; and Dr. Sudha Seshadri, director and founder of the Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer's and Neurodegenerative Diseases, are some examples.
